Mandaloun
Mandaloun
As I came upon this corner of the palace, a truly enchanting sight awaited me - a view of a majestic Lebanese cedar framed by the delicate Mandaloun. The striking contrast between the man-made structure and the beauty of nature left a lasting impression on me.
As an architectural feature, mandalouns hold significance in Lebanese heritage and design. They are typically placed in prominent parts of houses and palaces, adding charm and character to the overall aesthetic. Mandalouns serve both functional and decorative purposes, providing an elegant division for the windows while enhancing the visual appeal of the building.
It consists of a vertical, fine column that separates two units of a window. The mandaloun is built using local limestone and is typically topped with a discharging arch. It is often adorned with hanging flower boxes, adding a touch of natural beauty to the structure.
